Marlin has been an Initiate in the Sufi Order International (SOI) since 1974 and was ordained a Cherag (“shur-ogg”, or Minister) of the Universal Worship, a branch of that order, in 1978. Marlin led the Houston, Texas branch of the SOI from 1980 to 1983. Marlin has presented a number of workshops on Sufi practice and guided a number of student-initiates in their spiritual development. Marlin has led Dances of Universal Worship, a form of “moving meditation” since 1976.
Marlin has been a member of Unity of Santa Maria since 1997 and has served on its Board of Directors since 1999; including 1 year as Vice President, 2 years as Secretary and 1 year as Emeritus member. He has also served the Congregation in other capacities, including YOU Coordinator and Vision Committee Chairman.
Marlin has been married to Kathy since 1972. He has 4 sons, 2 daughters-in-law and 7 grandchildren.
Marlin has been self-employed in the Oil & Gas industry since 1989 and held several management positions with Mobil Oil Corporation prior to that. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin (1972) and a Master of Arts in Educational Management (1976) from the University of Texas at San Antonio. |
