Hail to the Conquering HEROINE Our New Licensed Unity Teacher

Sunday March 26th Where she is receiving her certification, celebrating her graduation and enjoying a "Well-Done Doris" Banquet in her much deserved honor after the service in the activity center.
Doris was born in San Francisco, CA, the third of six children. Raised as a Catholic, she attended public schools from kindergarten through high school. She graduated from St Paul's High School at 17 and married Ray at 18 in The Most Holy Redeemer church in San Francisco. She soon had 4 children by the time she was 22. Doris and Ray moved to Lompoc, CA in 1959. Her husband was a teacher in the Lompoc Unified School District and Doris was soon president of the Faculties Wives Club for two years. She joined the Lompoc Artist Association and became secretary for two years. As her children started school she became involved in the PTA. She was First Vice President for a year and then president for two years. At this time she had her fifth child and decided to give up outside activities. As her children grew older and able to care for themselves, she bean to question what her purpose in life was and wanted to do more for society.
Doris asked God for direction and was led to Unity Chapel of Light. Even though she was raised Catholic, Doris had no real idea of who she was in God's eyes, or her own eyes. She joined Unity in April 1994 and began taking credit classes on Saturday mornings. Doris had a "vivid" dream at this time that transformed her life. She continued taking CEP classes and became more involved with Unity Chapel.
Doris took over the bookstore when Neva Warren retired, and also managed the bookstore at Asilomar in 1999 and 2000 for the West Central Region of the Association of Unity Churches.
You have seen her on platform, giving meditations, doing lessons at the 9:00am and 11:00am services, teaching at Maria del Sol and in her home. She is involved in Reiki at church, and at the Cancer Center in Santa Maria. She has also fed many in need at the homeless shelter for 7 years.
Two years ago she finally became brave enough to fly by herself to Unity Village, Missouri and take the other required classes and SDS finals, finishing up in November, 2005. She received her Licensed Unity Certificate January 2006. Doris really believes that God has been working in her life all along, she just had to start listening.
Doris Oakes proves after 11 years of continuous study, teaching, speaking, and serving, how determined and persistent she is. Here's the icing on her cake: In her own home she teaches "The Disappearance of the Universe" Monday Night from 7:00-9:00pm and "Divine Sounds Meditation" Prayer Circle on Fridays 7:30-9:00pm. |
